No recharge
I thought I would get a brief weekend to recharge at home, but this was not to be. A flight to southern Tanzania that I needed for Monday was fully booked so I resigned myself to travelling overland with some other colleagues departing today.
After only returning from Botswana and sleeping at around 4am, I had negotiated departing at 9.30am for the bare minimum of rest and preparations for my next field trip. Obviously there had been a miscommunication about the pick-up because by 8am the driver was hassling me and lingering outside my apartment. We departed, but after an unprepared scramble.
I felt hanging and shattered all day. After around ten hours of driving we broke our journey and slept in Iringa. The highlight of the day was the road cutting through Mikumi National Park and spotting giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthogs, baboons and impala.
