Outdoor Lights Out

We have a light outside the side door, and it had been flickering for the last few months.  Two days ago the circuit breaker (fuse) went, so no light. When we got home from Chesterfield (through two floods) I checked the bulb which was still okay. So I removed the lamp and decided to get a new one.

It was very straightforward to disconnect the old one, but I could not get the new one to fit. And then it went dark! My Blip is of the cover I made to protect the bare wires from the weather.  Tomorrow's first job is to finish this job.
