Not a butterfly (?)
And not a macro lens. and not my "forte". (what is?) I think this is some sort of moth on these shasta daisies which are about the only thing blooming in my yard right now. (Any identification would be appreciated.) I've been hoping to catch a beautiful colorful butterfly so I could lead into a book I've recently read, Flight Behavior, by Barbara Kingsolver. But I do love these flowers. And you can see this guy's little face. so he will have to do. I really liked and recommend this book - especially if you have seen the imax film about the flight of the monarch butterflies and the story of discovering where they winter in Mexico. This story is fiction - about the butterflies only migrating as far as Tennessee for the winter which is much harsher than they are used to and many don't make it. It's about the family that finds this living beautiful gold in the forest and the economics driving the farmers to plan to cut the forest where the butterflies are roosting, and the dynamics between the scientific researchers who come to study this unusual phenomena, and the townspeople, the church, the environmentalists, the tourists and the children. All because of Climate Change. It's a very pressing subject which the author manages to tell with a good story and complex characters. And it sparked discussion with our granddaughters when they were here, as we had seen the unforgettable 3D IMAX film with them. While sitting on the beach, we talked about how far the ocean is supposed to rise in the next 100 years. (10 feet) Our 9 year old asked if it would be 1 foot higher in 10 years and where she might be sitting then...
Oh, the questions about the future of our planet....
Our friends (blipper Mikeday and hubby) arrived later today than they planned as they missed one ferry but had a much longer but good tour though the islands on a beautiful day. Day #29 of sun, no rain. We'll have a good weekend. Hope you all do too!
