In the Woods
Lynches Wood road walk today. Hurricane Helene took down many trees in this nature preserve in Newberry. It just opened back up for hiking, biking and horseback riding but only on the road that loops and a few short sections of the trail. Most of the 4-7 miles of trails are closed yet as the work crew gets trees out of the path.
Many trees down in parts of the creek that winds its way through the park as well as along the road. Some just fell over out of the ground with the roots standing in the air and others snapped off. Big tall trees. I ran into an arborist who was making a list of trees along the road for future removal. Making the trail safer. It will be a while before they get the inner trails cleared.
It was a beautiful day today and it was good to get back into nature with just me, myself and I. I spooked three deer but I talked to them and they actually stopped running to listen to me! Tried to get a photo of them but only had the 18-55mm and they were too far. Saw a redtail hawk. Found a rock that almost had a heart shape but left it there.
Always some treasures in the woods but sometimes they are just carried away in my heart.
