Just like Tom's Hare.
"When we were very young."© A.A. Milne.
When we were very young one or two of us used to "Hunt" things Wood pigeons, Rabbits, etc.
I'm likely to be corrected. - SO - I'll preface this by saying it's more illustrative than accurate.
One day Tom had been shooting - he shot a Hare, it ran on, he shot it with the other Barrel, it ran on, obviously injured, elsewise he'd never have caught it; apparently, so goes the tale he pursued it, caught up with it and administered the Coup de gras with the Butt of his 12 Bore.
" . . . . . . . and then it just died."
NOBODY has beaten this Rose with anything more fierce than a negative temperature.
HOWEVER!
I noticed a few tiny Buds around the top of the Twig/Branch.
Some time ago "one of me" wondered if it would/could become a Standard. Only time will tell? IF I remember. (; ¬ o)
