The Penny Schoolie
The 'Penny Schoolie', as it is still known in Fraserburgh was founded by Miss Strachan of Cortes in 1863 as a memorial to her brother James Strachan M.D. It could cater for 120 pupils and was originally a female 'industrial' school but by the time of its closure as a school in 1908 boys also attended.
Now used by a church the exterior of the building has been sympathetically restored as part of the Fraserburgh Rejuvenation Project
