Carciofi Pugliese
Lovely to be able to get these little purple artichokes from deep south Puglia from the co-op. Strip the outer leaves and cut the tops of the rest and griddle grilled. Eaten with certain wines they leave a taste of such nutty sweetness (smutty neatness) that is both fleeting and somehow full of its own memories even if one never experienced the originals. A bit (in a kind of sideways looking way) like having a Phelps pastie in Hayle after winter bodyboarding.
