My Best Efforts - Year 3

I Bee 'aving a Rest......

.............This little chap had been very busy, visiting the thyme, the petunias, the cosmos etc - then decided he had worked hard enough for a least half an hour so he settled on this dandelion on my neighbours gravel path! I was rather relieved as I had been chasing him from one plant to another at the same time. From what I have since found out, maybe most of us would do well to use this so-called weed more than we do.
Dandelion leaves contain abundant vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins A, C and K, and are good sources of calcium, potassium, iron and manganese. They are thought to have evolved about thirty million years ago in Eurasia. They have been used by humans for food and as a herb for millions of years.
The English name, dandelion, is a corruption of the French dent de lion meaning "lion's tooth", referring to the coarsely toothed leaves. The plant is also known as blowball, cankerwort, doon-head-clock, witch's gowan, milk witch, lion's-tooth, yellow-gowan, Irish daisy, monks-head, priest's-crown and puff-ball; other common names include faceclock, pee-a-bed, wet-a-bed, swine's snout, white endive, and wild endive. A lot of names for a very common plant and weed or no, they are very, very pretty!

Sunny with clouds - pleasantly warm but rain, thunder and lightening forecast - it is the weekend after all - temperature at 75 Deg.F. just now.

Have a great weekend everybody and keep dry!

This day last year I blipped "A Lincolnshire Landscape" - if you wish to peep, click on the thumbnail on the right.
