Lives
My host was shocked to learn that I hadn't packed my swimming costume along with my thermal underwear. Nonetheless, we set out by bus for the Massif des Calanques, a national park by the sea just outside Marseille with lots of turquoise inlets into the cliffs. Fabulous views, all in bright, warm sunlight as we walked down towards the Calanque du Surgiton. We didn't actually get quite as far as the beach but the views over a small nearby rock in the sea to a much larger island, hazy purple in the light, were a delight. No blip of that because you can find a million photos online.
When I showed my friend this evening-view from her terrace she pointed out her friend's daughter's flat. We zoomed in, and sure enough, there were her friend's grandchildren! Too blurred to break the French law that forbids photographing people without permission, but even so I'm not going to tell you which flat.
