Revelation

My friend Polly and I met up for our annual Christmas shopping day. We chose to spend the day in Manchester and called into the cathedral for our first stop. The website advertised a cafe , but it was long gone. However, instead we encountered the beautiful stained glass windows and were treated to a short lecture from one of the cathedral guides. The window in the main photo was inspired by the book of revelations which is the final book of the Bible . The artist who created it was also inspired by the work of the artist Kandinsky.
We got repeatedly side tracked in our quest for presents , lunching and chatting in the Portico library ( a new venue for us yet food has been served there for over 200 yrs) and then another long chat over cups of tea in Marks and Sparks. We ended up running for the train as we lost track of time !
The Portico library has a tiny cafe , only part is open to the public the rest is for members only. We waited quite a while for a table and then a lady offered us hers as she us a member so could use the members only private area round the back .
We thanked her for her kindness and then ensued a lengthy chat, after a while we suggested that she join us for lunch. She was very keen to talk , having had a long and interesting life she had plenty to say and we were happy to listen adding in a few bits of our own . When we had finished lunch we swapped numbers and arranged to meet up in Blackburn in the new year and go to one of the concerts at our Cathedral. It was a strange encounter of women of substance you might say . Polly and I became friendly in the eighties when we were members of CND and went to Greenham Common . A decade later we were 2 of the 6 founder members who managed to set up a Women’s Refuge in our area . P is still an active member and the project goes from strength to strength, evolving and growing according to the need .
The day was neatly rounded up with a train journey home to be met by our men folk and whisked off for a very tasty curry at a place in Darwen . J and K , it’s on the to do list for your next visit !
