I've Got A Silver Machine

This jet flew directly over me on my walk today. I saw it appear on the horizon as a tiny dot of reflected light and watched as it 'slowly' (600mph) got closer 

The contrails from the jet exhaust form as the hot gases mix with cold air, typically over twenty thousand feet and commonly over thirty thousand feet.

I was surprised to read that in certain conditions such as Siberia and the Arctic, contrails can form at ground level if the air is cold enough. Who knew!

I think it is a 747 Jumbo jet and it is headed in a North Westerly direction so possibly headed for the good old US of A.....

Another day of fine weather and great walking...

And back to Ingleman Towers for a lavish meal of homemade vegetable soup and crusty bread....

I am being spoilt rotten!
