Thanksgiving family gathering

I was so tired from dialysis that I didn't take many photos today, but here is one of Doug talking with all three of my great-nephews.  Levi was much more active today, after an initial shy period, and the twins talked to him, even though they didn't play together.

For Thanksgiving dinner there was so much and so many different kinds of each type of food that it was pretty overwhelming.  Lex made the turkey and stuffing; Diane made a vegetarian stuffing, sweet potatoes with chestnuts and grilled salmon; Nick brought stuffing (his mother's recipe) and mashed potatoes; Sarah brought her wonderful corn pudding; Manda brought green beans and an enormous container of cranberry sauce; and there were three pies. There were tons of leftovers, which is one of the best things about this meal.

I know that many people no longer celebrate Thanksgiving Day because the true story of what happened on that first one is of a betrayal and a slaughter.  But for me Thanksgiving has nothing to do with any of that.  It's a time to gather with my loved ones and feel the gratitude we have for one another and for the goodness in our lives.  And to overeat and wear ourselves out and have fun.

I hope you all had a wonderful day.
