Bird of the Century

In 2023 NZ Forest and Bird ran a competition for NZ bird of the century, thanks to lot of publicity from US talkshow host John Oliver this lovely bird won. 

They are breeding on a local lake, the tiny chicks are carried on the adult's back for the first few weeks.
