Over the River and Through the Woods . . .
It was a day that included many weather warnings. But we awoke to temperatures a few degrees above freezing, and while we saw snow on the far hills, we only encountered rain on our drive to visit my mother-in-law at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She'd bought us tickets to a very nice Thanksgiving dinner, which we would eventually enjoy with her and with a 97-years-young lady named Mary who was alone, and invited herself to sit with us. Mary was good company, and had interesting stories to tell.
It wasn't exactly over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go. But it was a lovely drive to get there, as always; we took the backroads on the way down, as we figured they'd be far less crowded than the main ones (and that was indeed the case).
There was amazing fog rising off the hills and I was trying to get some photos of it on the mountain tops. With pretty much constant rain on the windshield, though, it was tough to get off a decent shot while traveling in the car.
Here's a photo of one of the backroads we took, on the way to Warriors Mark and then Tyrone, where we caught the main road for the rest of the trip. There are farms there, and horses, and it's just a pretty stretch of road. So here is my picture for the day. You can see some authentic raindrops on the windshield there on the right, from our cold November rain.
Here is my Thanksgiving wish for you: may you have lots to be thankful for, may you have plenty of good food to nourish your body, and may you have someone whose company you enjoy to eat it with! I hope you had a happy day!
Our soundtrack song is Guns 'n Roses, with Cold November Rain. (This is the 9-minute version.)
