Poor Perdie
We are looking after Perdie for a couple of nights and unfortunately we needed to take her to the vet this afternoon. She and Ivy were racing each other across the field on their walk this afternoon and having a wonderful time. Then on their way back to us on about lap three, they virtually knocked into me and Perdie yelped and then we saw what looked like a graze on her side. Whippets have very thin skins. Anyway, we immediately headed for home and decided, on taking a closer look, that we needed to take her to the vet just to make sure.
Our vets are brilliant and the emergency one who was on duty today had her sedated, cleaned and then stitched up all within half an hour. He gave her a pain killing injection, an antibiotic injection and then finally another injection to reverse the sedative. He also gave her a little body suit to wear so that she doesn't lick and worry the scar. She is now home and resting quietly in her bed, still a bit woozy. We can give her half rations a bit later on and she should be OK by tomorrow. Little Ivy is quite concerned and keeps going over to check up on her.
We have decided not to tell her parents as there isn't anything they can do from London and apart from being a bit sore tomorrow, Perdie is fine. One naturally feels somewhat responsible but accidents happen and the vet thought she may have caught it on something sharp at the end of the field where they were out of sight and then by banging into me it opened up the cut. Anyway, all is OK in the end and the vet said she'll be fine, if a bit sore tomorrow when the sedative and pain killer wear off.
