Adventure
Slept well, although once again woke early, but P was also up so we had a cup of tea before going to take his car to somewhere meter-less to park for the weekend. I got some pastries and fresh bread and we had breakfast, chatting all the time.
We decided to go to do the chain walk at Elie, although I was a bit worried about whether we’d manage to time it right given the high tide timings. The weather was bright but there were quite a few clouds around, and once again it was very mild.
Was lovely to be out in the fresh air and we enjoyed the walk across the golf course and along the beach, but only managed a couple of chains before it was clear the tide was too high and we couldn’t cross the little inlets between chained sections. Disappointing, but there was no option except to turn back. We decided to head for the pub and enjoyed some delicious chips and drinks….sitting outside and remembering other jolly pub trips over the years.
We dithered a bit about what to do next, aware how early it gets dark this time of year, but in the end decided to go to the other end of the walk and see how far along we could get from there given the high tide time had passed. Those who’d already got wet socks gamely agreed and we drove round to the holiday park end and had a lovely walk along the coast with the sun breaking through. Unfortunately we found the same problems crossing the first inlet, although H&P spent quite a lot of time weighing up whether they could jump or step across!
We bagged a trig point just above the beach before walking back to the car against a lovely sunset, then drove home. We’d had a lovely day despite not being able to complete the chain walk and talked non-stop about more things than I can list, and it’s whetted their appetite to visit again and try revisiting it.
I was pleased I’d made the chilli already and so making a crumble for pudding was no bother to pull dinner together. More chat and laughter as we ate, continued when we relaxed on the sofa over drinks, trying to find out what had happened to people we knew when we all lived in Oxford where we met.
We ended up having an earlier night, all quite tired but having had another great day
