The old pontoon
This is an old rotting pontoon on the Monklands canal at Drumpellier Park in Glasgow.
I was dropping off H(@hannahjane99) for work today and as this was close by, Jude and I went for a wander.
I thought Drumpellier was an odd name so did a bit of googling.
It was once called Drumpeleder or maybe Din peleidr. It was once the farm site for the monks of Newbattle abbey. (That's over near Edinburgh so not sure what was going on there). It was the monks conenction that lead to the area being called Monklands today. The small lochs here are leftovers from the ice age and once had a crannog on the main one.
Will need to come back for a walk in the summer when it's more full of life, not just dog walkers and joggers.
