Quod oculus meus videt

Garden Macro

A few chores around the house then I went out in the garden, once the rain had stopped, to do a bit of macro photography.

Later, while sitting in the lounge watching a grey squirrel devour food from the bird feeder, a streak of something came across and crashed into the squirrel, and just as quickly sped out of sight.  I wasn't sure what I'd seen, but on walking to the window a sparrow hawk, flew past and away into the garden. I'm pretty sure it was the sparrow hawk that had attacked the squirrel, something I'd never seen before.  Size wise, I'm pretty certain the hawk would take it on, after all I've seen it kill pigeons in the garden on other occasions.

The surprising thing was that the squirrel held on to the feeder and only retreated after a few seconds.  At the speed the hawk had come into view, I was amazed the squirrel hadn't fallen to the ground.
