First Frozen Bubbles of Winter 2024/25

Well, it sure feels like winter has moved in! We've had multiple rounds of snow, though none that really amounted to much on the ground. And the temperatures suddenly turned cold. How cold? Cold enough for frozen bubbles!

It was about 24 degrees F outside, with heavy frost on the car windows. I made a brand new mix of dish detergent, water, and corn syrup, and out I went, for a bit more than 20 minutes into the cold. Our backyard has some chairs and little tables, and conveniently placed stumps, perfect for blowing bubbles onto.

The only implement I took along was a dollar store fan. It's cheap and easy and it actually does okay with the soap bubbles. When I am done, I simply take it inside and rinse it off gently in warm water. There are colorful flowers on it which add some fun to any photo.

Above is one of my favorite shots. It was messy and shiny and sparkly and all icy looking, and I just liked it. It reminded me of a snow globe. You may see a few more of my ice bubble shots on Instagram here.

Our song for this image of frozen shiny bubble fun is Dolly Parton, with Shine.

Bonus: my canonical frozen bubble tip set.
