Big Time Gambler
Posting this nearly 54 years after the event.
I seem to remember, a bit like the millennium change fear from 1999 to 2000, back in January 1971, we were worried the upcoming decimalisation next month would make our hard earned £sd worthless.
So I'm pretty sure that on getting back to school in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, I went to the village Post Office to hedge my Granny's Christmas present & invest in a £1 Premium Bond. I think a pint of beer cost around 14d or £0/1s/2d then.
On 2nd December 2024, the National Savings & Investment people made my asset digital, and so I have the great joy to be able to confirm that in the 646 monthly draws since my hedge-funding premiere, I have won absolutely nothing. Had I put it in a Post Office Savings book a/c, would probably have £10 now.
