Momma Wasp
This is one of the biggest wasps that I have seen. Just to give you some idea, the bloom head that she is standing over is half an inch across. So large, that its flight was silent. So large, that the bushes swayed when it landed and the flower stems doubled over under her weight.
Unfortunately she did not come close enough for a quality shot, but how could I not throw this image up and allow you to gasp in amazement at the shear ginormity of this creature. If this wasp was to invade your picnic, you could throw it a sandwich or even have a game of Frisbee with it.
This is the same family of spider hunting wasps that I posted a few days ago, but a full magnitude of size larger - it was BIG!
