Robert fixing stuff
I'm someone who likes to fix things myself. I renewed the roofs on the other two houses on our plot, and fixed the guttering seen here, about 10 years ago, working from a ladder.
It's been clear we needed work doing here above the door to the house and in the end I decided that I was actually getting a bit old to do dodgy ladder work, or to swing from a harness attached to the chimney! So we decided to call in the professionals.
This is Robert who owns a small building company, "The Fixers", who seem to take on jobs large and small. We met him by the swimming lake a few years back and after chatting for a while discovered he was part of this company. At the time we thought that if we needed work doing we'd get in touch. So we did!
In my picture he has already installed one of the snow racks which should hold the snow in place so it doesn't suddenly whoosh down and fill the area in front of the door, as it has done for many years! It should also protect the gutters, which he is also replacing. He's very friendly and he lives just round the corner, but also seems professional too. He's fairly well wrapped up, which is good because it's minus 10°C out there. On the other hand, that's a lot better than rain or snow.
We invited him in for coffee and a cake in the afternoon ,and we sat around the log stove so he could really warm up before heading out again for the last hour of work, done in the dark with a head torch.
He'll be back tomorrow to finish the job! (He's presently looking for indoor jobs to do in the winter!)
We have been restoring order to the inside of our house after moving everything to get the windows fitted. It's going slowly but it's going well. We are sorting through things as we do it, and not putting everything back. Maybe one day life will return to normal, whatever that is!
