In Epping Forest
I was removed to write “in Effing Forest” oops! I did.
We were visiting our friends in Waltham Abbey for the day. After coffee and lunch we usually go out for the afternoon to work up an appetite for tea and cake and dinner.
Today Al had decided we should go searching for the Lost Pond of Epping Forest. The last few hundred metres proved too muddy so we never found it. Next time perhaps.
The day was very dismal and overcast making finding a bit challenging. Lots of trees of course; beech, silver birch, holly and oak; nothing inspirational. And what light there was was fading fast. This was the best I could come up with.
Back to the car, dark when we got back to their house. Bara Brith with tea was later followed by beef casserole, carrots, mash and shedded sprouts with bacon. All rounded off with gooseberry crumble. Yum. As it always is.
Good conversation about all and sundry and a trouble free journey home. What more could you want from a day?
