'Murmurations'
This evening we drove up to the Nuffield Theatre at Lancaster University to see a show called 'Murmurations' put on by Lancaster Arts.
The forty-five minute film by Darren Andrews, showing murmurations of starlings filmed at Leighton Moss, was being accompanied by Dave Shooter aka Guerrilla Biscuits, who was performing an improvised piece.
I did enjoy the film, which oscillated between being relaxing and mildly boring with some moments of breathtaking beauty, but it was Dave's performance that made it for me. A
Admittedly, he didn't do what I was hoping he would, which was to process more of the sound from the film as it played, but the way in which the improvisation occasionally coalesced into moments of beauty made it an appropriate accompaniment. An aural murmuration, if you will.
One thing I would say, though, is that Lancaster Arts charged sixteen pounds for the ticket, so while the auditorium was full, it was a demographically limited audience.
