Trip down memory lane
Harvinder, our former student from Malaysia, now living in Australia with his young family, today took them to see the Wallace monument and Stirling castle .
He wanted to show them the sword which 21 years ago on his first visit to us he had been allowed to hold. He happened to be there when the sword was taken out of its cabinet for its annual cleaning.
Today his two sons could just look at it within its glass case and marvel at the size. Even Harvinder says he was shocked at the sheer weight of Wallace’s sword when he got to hold it.
Gale force winds had forced the closure of the top half of the monument, so they were unable to savour the full Wallace experience.
From here it was a short journey across town to Stirling castle where again the wind rattled the battlements. After a day enduring a Scottish winter storm, they were glad to come home to us and sit in front of the fire.
The had never experienced wind of that ferocity or such coldness in Australia.
