A day out
Despite the weather being pretty dismal, we decided to go on our planned trip to Masham anyway. We stopped on the way at Thornborough henges for a quick walk. Also known as the Stonehenge of the north(!), the henges are three huge circular neolithic earthworks that align with the constellation of Orion. There is not much to see at ground level, but it's a fascinating atmospheric spot. We then went onto Masham for a nice warming bowl of soup and a look around the Masham Gallery, where I was hoping for some Christmas present inspiration. Some lovely stuff in there, but I didn't buy anything. We finished our day at the Druids Temple and had a wet walk up to the stones. This is not prehistoric but an elaborate rich man's folly built in the late 1700s or early 1800s.
