This reminds me of ‘Are You Being Served’ for those old enough to remember it.

And on the subject of shopping here is something that has been intriguing me for a while; why do shop assistant talk in the past tense? They say ‘did you want a receipt?’ What not ‘would you like a receipt?’ Or ‘what was your name’ instead of ‘what is your name please?’.
I’ve also noticed that please and thank you and other such niceties are not as fashionable as they used to be!
