En finsk jul...

...is the Swedish title of this concert - in translation A Finnish Christmas - a concert with Iiris Viljanen who is a Finnish singer/songwriter, belonging to the Swedish speaking minority in Finland, living in Sweden for the past 20 years.
There are hundreds of Christmas carols/songs in Finland and she sang some of them in her own versions, in Finnish of course. Some songs were her own production and were performed in Swedish or just via piano playing.
Brevväxlingar was one of her own songs. The text is about the covid pandemic period when a mother and her daughter, living in different countries, are writing to each other. Very touching, especially for all of us who experienced this period in a similar way.
An old Christmas song  Arkihuolesi kaikki heitä was performed in Finnish and very different from the versions you are used to. For those with more interest – here the same song in a more traditional style – and here in a VERY traditional way.

The lyrics of Brevväxlingar below - sorry, mostly google translation...

Are you coming for Christmas?
will you come home then?
Back to the country
where you became a long time ago
No one knows if the ferry has started to leave by then
About the bus up to Vaasa
takes Swedes who want to

You must not get sick
during this time
in something else
that threatens your lives
Then I can't be there
it is not possible to get there
Take care is now well
and soak your hands in spirits

Many jobs are gone
Only the people remain
My inner life
is my pastime
When it's evening
then I think of him
That's how I make the hours go by
until it is soon morning again

All summer
was a single reflection
over the life choices
I had on my table
What should I start doing?
What is the meaning of me
Do I do what I thought
what I am meant for

Will you come in the spring?
will you come home then?
Back to the country
where you became a long time ago
Get off at the train station
Dad is still waiting there
and the birches in the wind
which you recognize so well

It's been a long time
feel like a tourist
Sees the whole village
what has been built and happened since the last time
Coming home to the farm
and enters your only child
And although I'm in Finland
then I'm greeted with a hug
