Bright lights in the dark

I remember last year in Iceland the tour guide saying about how they put what we would call Christmas lights up on their houses from Oct/Nov through to March as they have the longer polar nights. This helps everyone feel there is light in the dark, and all the Christmas lights up now are bringing the sparkle. I dropped some donations off at the Church on the way home and their tree looked so sparkly.
