Divertissement Complété. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR
On November 25, I Blipped a little side project still in the rough. Yesterday, it was completed, and I can present the finished product here.
Editor and I are fussy about our home-brewed coffee, and so its daily manufacture has turned into somewhat of an industry. I have figured out ways to systematize the process: three different roasts of beans are weighed out carefully, and ground by hand. Then, the correct amount of boiling water - 750ml - is poured into a laboratory beaker. The mere act of pouring the freshly boiled water into the cold beaker reduces its temperature to about 200°F, hot enough, but not so hot as to scald the aromatic oils in the coffee grounds. Perhaps the skin on my fingers has gotten thinner with age, or I'm just getting soft, but it was time to invent a handle for the beaker...
The walnut ring is three layers laminated with the grain running at right angles in the middle layer to give strength to the short-grain wood fibers. A thin layer of cork sheet snugs wood and glass together just right. The handle only needed to be the right shape and size for a hand, et voila!
