Ahoy !

It has been another bitterly cold day but at least the sun appeared during the morning. There is something about being out under cover of darkness in the early morning that seems to shield me from inter acting with the worst of the weather- unless it is pouring with rain, that is.  I don’t feel cold having just got up out of a cosy bed and I neither can I see what’s happening with the weather. I am in a little temperate bubble trotting down to Princes Street  to the Apple Shop and my bus which this morning was on time and delivered me seamlessly to the sand 20minutes early. The sea didn’t feel overly cold and the rolling waves made it an interesting dip.
My heated gilet and my hand warmers have been quite a boon for homeward travel but that hot shower back home is just the best feeling.

Portobello beach is far removed from the white sandy beaches  of the islands and with old mine workings under the Forth, any stormy seas tend to churn up and deposit coal dust on the beach. Today the last ebbing tide had left on its departure an artistic tracery of black high up the sand.

It’s been a short day and the sun is setting already in all its fiery glory behind the trees in the Meadows. Just another 11days until the days start drawing out.
