Marjorie's ramblings

First of the season

My poor amaryllis bulbs were well cared for in the summer, but I left them resting too long. Quite a few have started to burst forth without the necessary watering.

This is the only one I have where the petals are so narrow. It is from the spider lily group. You will see that there are two flower heads already.

Karyn was here to clean this morning, so I needed to tidy the house first (!). I went to the hospital at lunchtime so that I could accompany Margret to an appointment with a plastic surgeon.

We had a good time. He was an hour late, but one of the nurses grew up in Rhodesia so I told her about the time I was there, just before independence. Another Zimbabwean nurse came from Margret's ward because they had not given her any morphine in preparation for the procedure. The nurses hugged and chatted.

When the surgeon arrived, he swept into the dressing room with his entourage. In a few seconds he had scooped all the clots out of the haematoma on Margret's let and given instructions for dressings. She will need daily dressings and the wound (very large) will take months to heal. She is not a candidate for a skin graft. He was very positive and a delight. The nurses later told me that they like him and he has taught them a lot.

I dashed off to choir and was only 40 minutes late!

We sang all the songs for the concert at Wallington on Friday.  I just hope I remember when the altos are singing and when keeping quiet.
