There's always one
Carrots. Nine little beauties for my supper tonight. And there are many more to come.
It has been another day out of the box: sunshine and 25C. Perfect for being indoors with all the windows open, and outdoors keeping up with the weeding, watering and grass control.
And supervising, says Bean.
I am reading a fascinating book by Sam Miller - Migrants: the story of us all in which he points out that in prehistory all humans migrated at some time or other, for some reason or another, and that to be a migrant is the natural state. Being sedentary is a tiny and recent part of human existence.
"Having a lifelong home and a nationality are considered normal, as if they were part of the human condition. I think the opposite is true: we are almost unparalleled as a migratory species, able to thrive practically anywhere. Human history has usually been written by and for sedentary people, who claim an attachment to a particular location or country, or sometimes to justify an imperial adventure... My aim is to restore migration to the heart of the human story."
In today's world, where in many places migrants are looked down upon and even shunned, the sort of perspective that is presented in this book would be helpful. To say the least.
Thank you for yesterday's comments. I felt as though I was going out on a bit of a limb, but I am enormously reassured how many people feel the same as me.
