Free runner
I only got to spend about fifteen minutes in the churchyard of Holy Trinity this afternoon, en route (circuitously) between the rec' car park and a hospital appointment, but during that short space of time I learned two things. The first is that Wrens - or at least, this particular Wren - can run up vertical surfaces; and the second is that Robins regurgitate food pellets. You may already have been aware of both these facts, in which case you most likely won't understand my excitement, but I love learning new things, and acquiring two pieces of knowledge in one day is especially satisfying.
I'm featuring the Wren on the grounds that it's the more photogenic of the two, but my second photo shows the regurgitating Robin. According to the BBC its pellet is likely to have encompassed a mixture of insect parts and seeds, which looks about right, though I can't be certain because I didn't collect it. I'm sure some of my more inquisitive friends would have been down on their hands and knees in the leaf litter, searching, as soon as the Robin moved away, but I'm afraid I don't possess quite that level of scientific dedication.
I'd intended to post a set of photos of the Wren to my Facebook page, to prove that this bit of free running wasn't a fluke, but Facebook seems to have crashed this evening, or at any rate won't let me in, so I've put a quartet on Bluesky instead, if you'd like to take a look.
