Mr Smith

Misty Morning

Not just Misty, freezing too. Minus 3 centigrade in fact first thing.

Not to worry as I had a day indoors scheduled to complete three tax return forms. HMRC decided to fine me for not filling in self assessment forms. Even though I was fully employed in the corporate realm those three years and they were taking huge monthly amounts. When I complained about the fact that not only had I notified them I was no longer self employed but that they’d also removed me from the system as a result they told me to pay the fine immediately and that they’d only hear my appeal once I’d submitted the forms. So, I had to re-register as self employed, wait to be put on their system and now fill in three years of forms noting that I received zero income from self employment.

Of course, the fun didn’t end there. I also had to download two separate HMRC apps onto my phone, take photos of my passport, scan in the biometric details and then upload a selfie before they will repay me any money. After a few hours of that I received confirmation that my forms had been submitted and my request should be dealt with inside 72 days.

A broken man, I made dinner and am now lying on the sofa watching the footie and muttering to myself.
