Fifty Pence

It’s cold, grey, and very wintery today, but at least it’s dry. I got a short walk in after the school run, then settled in at home for the day. One of the nice things about having some leave is catching up on various projects I have on the go. This morning, I found myself entirely up to date with the backlog of images to edit, post and catalogue—time to make some new ones.

Today’s blip was my first experiment with a new iPhone lens… a Freewell 45x Macro that fits a 17mm lens mount and has a tiny ring of built-in LEDs surrounding the glass.  The lights are needed because the focusing distance is effectively zero—you press the lens against the subject (the front element is safely recessed), and Bob’s your uncle. The lens is very light… much lighter than Beastgrip or Reeflex lenses, but it seems to be solidly constructed from aluminium, and based on first impressions, it works well. Attached to the telephoto lens of my iPhone 14 Pro Max, it produced some impressive images of the 50p coin I was using as a test subject.
