Flowers for Sir Thomas (FF13_2024)
With the weather remaining dreich we took the bus to Bakewell. Lunch in the Rutland Arms was very good, but the weather didn't really improve beyond mizzle. Jane Austen is said to have stayed there while writing Pride & Predjudice.
We had a look around the rather splendid All Saints where the memorials to the Vernon and Manners families are quite spectacular.
My blip is a memorial to Sir Thomas Wensley who died at the Battle of Shrewsbury in the Wars of the Roses.* No idea why he is missing his hands and nose or why he has been gifted those roses and notes.
* Tudors 1 Plantagenets 0 or History is written by the victors?
Other interpretations/opinions/viewpoints are freely available!
I'll tag this for Flower Friday, as it does at least contain a few :-)
