Brasil has lots of these ‘por kilo’ buffet places and this is one of many in our barrio. You get a ticket when you enter and every time you go up to the buffet, you get your plate weighed (weight of plate excluded) and they stamp your ticket with the weight and price, and give you a set of cutlery. When you finish each plate, the waiter takes away your plate and cutlery. You pay on the way out. It stops people from pulling their plates hot with food that goes to waste. Here are our tickets and we always have fun comparing: Bb’s starter plate was heavier than mine, my main course plate heavier than his, and his dessert heavier than mine. The quality and variety of food (and price) varies from place to place. We like them because you can get a great variety of fresh salads and veggies. Not always easy in some places and even a salad to share as a starter can be too big and just lettuce, tomatoes and onions. We’re not generally buffet fans, but the concept here is different and you don’t feel rushed or have to queue for anything.
