A short historical stroll.
There are 5 villages in our National Landscape area. The most southerly is Warton and that is where we went this morning.
Warton goes back a long way and was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086.
Two historical sites are well known.
My main shot shows the George Washington pub and hotel. Its names comes from the fact that the ancestors of the first American President ived in Warton. On July 4th. every year the Stars and Stripes is flown above the village church. The flag was given to the village by American servicemen who had visited.
My extra shows part of the ruins of the Warton Old Rectory built in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. These are Grade 1 listed byildings and well worth a visit. Admisson is free.
