Bokeh
I may not have a Christmas tree installed in the Dower House but that doesn’t stop me decking my radiator with Christmas lights. Last year’s teensy weensy tree in a pot has grown to be a much bigger lad this year and sits outside on the patio hoping that another big strong human lad might be able to lift him into the house to do the honours with the star or the fairy or both.
I felt a little bit more Christmassy when Glasgow daughter and Ewan arrived in time for lunch and Porty daughter arrived just after lunch. Unfortunately Nina and her Dad couldn’t come as she has exams next week.I won’t see any of them over the Christmas as the Glasgow contingent are off skiing and Porty daughter is flying to Oman to spend time with her daughter, son-in-law and little Julia. However, it was a merry little band today but like all the older generations going before me I wonder why children mumble. I daren’t say ‘speak up, you’re mumbling’ because I know what the reposte will be…….. because I in my hey day said it too. Best just to sit and smile and nod as the conversation flows back and forth and I catch one word in 5 and try and form some sense. Yes, the hearing aids which cause me such itchy ears are safely stored on my bedside table out of hearing’s way.
The visitors have departed now and left 3 presents under the coffee table and an afternoon’s chat to digest. I had to explain to Ewan that the game I was hoping to give him has apparently now left UK customs and is in the hands of the delivery service. Sometimes I wonder if it was all a scam. We’ll see. He has been compensated for any disappointment.
It certainly felt a very short day but not yet quite the shortest yet.
