Last night's barbeque tonight

Postponed the barbeque last night owing to the weather forecast which turned out to be the right decision as we had heavy rain. But this evening was the end of a lovely day weatherwise, sunny still and nicely warm, but a breeze and none of the humidity of the previous days.

Spent the morning at the allotment, removing all the broadbeans and peas, clearing the soil and putting in some dwarf French beans. This plan worked well last year and we had lots of beans well into the autumn. Picked a lettuce and the first dwarf beans from an earlier row. Harvested some shallots and garlic too, but still most of those to get up.

Had to wolf down lunch as we were taking the outlaw to a Dobbies Garden Centre in the afternoon as part of her 88th birthday treat. Had an enormous cream scone - at a bargain price of BOGOF of £2.95. Almost too much for me to handle. Bought some tomato feed and a bag of woodchips to try smoking food on the barbeque.

Then back for the barbeque. We had vegetable kebabs (again) sardines (as a starter) and cajun chicken (from the Hairy Dieters cookbook)

Spoke to son on Facetime (socal1984) who had just got up. As he says, we have more contact with him in California than we did when he was in Manchester.
