Tomtit

Another gloriously sunny morning, ideal for relaxing in said sunshine.  Late morning though brought the 'time-to-move' itchiness.  A stop at the miners cemetery (extras) that yesterday's link referred to was sombre but beautiful.  I'm totally in awe of the early immigrants efforts to establish settlements, a living and a life in what would have been extremely tough conditions, especially when so far from 'home' on the other side of the world.  

On then to Lake Matheson which I have walked and photographed several times in the past so decided not to do the full walk.  Before any activity though, a little lunch at the cafe.  Yummy!  Decided to just walk to the first viewing platform which again, was lovely and met this wee chap along the way.  I'd been thinking of an early morning visit but never quite made it - I think the nagging doubt at the back of my mind was 'it's summer - even at sunrise there'll be a heap of people.....' and that prospect held no appeal for me at all.  On then back to Okarito - weather is looking good for the next couple of days so I may stay a couple of days!  I'm essentially on the way home now and could do the whole trip in a day if I chose to/had to.  Much nicer idea to meander and enjoy the sunshine then drive with intent if/when the weather deteriorates again.
