'He lies in the valley he loved'
This is written on Laurie Lee's grave stone in the Cotswold village of Slad where we went for lunch today. This is the view he has over the Slad valley. Perdie's mum and dad treated us to a really delicious lunch at The Woolpack in the village as a thank you for looking after Perdie - always a pleasure for us. 'Cider with Rosie' is one of my favourite books - he wrote so beautifully - and on the other side of the grave stone is the following inscription, taken from his poem 'April Rise'.
If ever I saw
blessing in the air
I see it now in this
still early day
Where lemon green
the vaporous
morning drips
Wet sunlight on the
powder of my eye.
