Dead Matter

Maybe a slightly morbid connotation to my title, but rather, I refer to decomposition of organic matter. When the ice recedes, decaying leaves and such are revealed. It's a marginal time between exposure and concealment. As winter develops and snow falls cover the landscape, everything will disappear under the weigh of it all.

My interest, however, was more in the visual puzzle. The shape of the ice patch overlaying the shape of the oak leaf, is confusing at first, especially at close quarters. Only after a second or so passes, does the subject become more obvious.
