At the pantomine
Today I went to Reading to go to Cinderella with grandson and daughter in law. I went on the train which was very straightforward although I took about an hour as it stops at lots of stations. It was nice and sunny so good to look out at the surroundings on the way there including the Sunningdale golf courses!
The Hexagon Theatre is quite modern (1977) with good views from all seats. It was a very lively good production. The scenery was mainly digital which I have not seen before but very impressive. See extra. The main characters of Cinderella, Buttons and Aunty G( the usual dame/ ugly sister type character) were excellent. Buttons was played by Justin Fletcher who is familiar to children as Mr Tumble on CBeebies he lives locally apparently, writes the script and stars every year. Paul Morse the panto dame is about a foot taller than Buttons! Apparently the two actors have performed pantos together for about 20 years..so they know each other well and make a great partnership. They announced at the end that next year it will be Beauty and the Beast! I don’t think I will book just yet..but maybe we will go.
I do not know Reading at all but was interested walking through the pedestrianised streets near the station to see some interesting old buildings …the Bills we went to for lunch was in a nice old Georgian house. There were also quite a few a Christmas stalls.
My ‘taxi’…..husband was waiting at Twickenham when I returned which was nice.
