'And today we have naming of parts?'
So runs Henry Reed's 2nd World War poem, a parody of the weapon training of an infantryman, who had to learn all about his 303 rifle.
So, too, in my own War against Ignorance in Scientific Matters, I am learning about pistils, stigmas, anthers, and suchlike. Does being able to 'name the parts' increase one's appreciation of beauty? I'm prepared to give it a go! Do the bees have a seminar on 'naming of parts' in the hive before the young ones go forth on their first raid?
