Icelandic Christmas Cookies

My mother made two types of Christmas cookies today and generously shared some of them with us. 
 
Many Icelanders love baking Christmas cookies and annually bake a few types of them. Some of the most common ones are various types of chocolate chip cookies (some with added nuts and/or raisins), gingerbread cookies, licorice meringue tops, Sörur and butter cookies, similar to shortbread cookies but usually with almonds flakes or chocolate on top, or piped in a circle shape.
