Whooper SWans
It was pretty wet and windy here today, and I almost did not go over to Shapinsay, but braved the elements and had a good, if wet, cycle around. I headed up to Ness and saw a large flock of cormorants there (extra), over a hundred. Then I went along to the Loch of Vasa to see if there were any whoopers. There was only one, probably the resident bird that's been there a couple of years (it may be too old or has an injury to let it migrate). I walked back to the bike and was stowing the camera when I heard whooping behind me. The problem with photography in wet and windy conditions is that you have to pack the kit accordingly, and I struggled to free the camera as loads of whoopers flew in on either side to settle on the loch. So this is quite a snatched shot. I counted them on the water and got about 72.
