Cophee, Phonebox and Philm Phriday

An even-earlier-than-Wednesday early start today so that I could ride into town for coffee-and-a-bun-with-bikey-friends.  I was so uncharacteristically early that I was somehow first to arrive.  But in the end there were about ten of us and some good chat; I had a lovely decaf latte, almost (but not quite) as lovely as the ones you get in the wee pasty shop in Keswick.  I stayed for about an hour and then headed to work.

I got a few things done in the office but to be honest felt like I'd left my brain at home, and the desk I'd booked turned out to be next to a radiator that was switched off, so I drank huge quantities of tea to try to warm up.  Random Colleague was in though so we did lunch again, and then I worked away for another hour or two.  Finally deciding that enough was enough I headed home.  Sort of.

First stop was a shop where I was hoping to buy a birthday present for my brother.  But alas, the thing I wanted wasn't sold out: it wasn't even sold in!  Allegedly it was available on the shop's website.  Ho hum.  Maybe I will have to try online.  I'm sure he won't mind too much if I can't quite get the thing in time.

Then, since it is Phriday today, I decided to look at a pair of those not-Post Office and not-BT telephone boxes. They are by New World Payphones, and each kiosk has a neat bi-fold door and stepped pyramid roof.  I think it looks a bit like the evil twin of Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator.

Excitement over I winched my way home for a pizza and Friday Film Night, and watched another "the history of mountain biking" production.  This one was about the work of photographer Wende Cragg, who was up in them there hills in 1970s Marin County with her camera, shooting endless reels of film of her adventures with the pioneers like Gary Fisher, Tom Ritchey, Charlie Kelly and Joe Breeze.  All those photos of the Repack crew, bombing down those fire trails on big old Schwinns?  That was Wende taking those.  I was pleased to see my distant somewhat friend, ace mountain bike racer and founder of WOMBATS, Jacquie Phelan, in the film too.
