Christmas Red

Clarence added a bit of Christmas cheer to the Back Porch Cafe this morning.  A light dusting of snow last night makes everything sparkle.  I just discovered that the first department store Santa was created by a Scottish immigrant, James Edgar, in Brockton, Massachusetts in 1890 and yes, he wore a red suit long before Coca Cola popularized the image.  He'd open a department store and wanted to bring a bit of holiday cheer to the city.  A year later, every department store was doing it.  Actually, the first gift giver in red was St. Nicholas in 14th century Turkey.  So, Ho,ho,ho!  Happy Winter Solstice!
